What NightEar knows about you: nothing.

Last updated: 11 October 2026

NightEar is made by A Brand New Company (ABN). In short: we collect nothing. Sound and picture only go between your own paired phones, over your own Wi-Fi, encrypted. There's no account, no server and no tracking. That's why we state on the App Store and Google Play: data not collected.

What we don't do

  • You don't create an account. We don't know your name, email address or phone number.
  • The app sends nothing to us or anyone else. NightEar has no server. There's no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third party crash reporting inside.
  • Sound and picture are never recorded or kept, not on your phones and not by us.
  • Crying is recognised on the baby phone itself. Nothing goes to the internet for that.

How sound and picture travel

The baby phone sends the room's sound straight to the phones you paired with it, over the Wi-Fi network in your home. A live picture only goes when you open Watch on the parent phone, NightEar is open on the baby phone and Watching is on there. While a parent watches, the baby phone's screen says so.

Everything is encrypted with a key that only those two phones have. That key is made when you pair with the QR code. No internet and no server is involved, ours included.

What stays on your phones

On the baby phone

  • The phones you paired, with their names, and a secret key for each phone in a protected place on the phone.
  • Tonight's events, like sound and crying, in memory only, until you press Stop. That way a parent phone that was away for a moment hears what it missed.
  • Your settings, like Watching and which camera.

On the parent phone

  • The baby phone you paired, with its name and a secret key.
  • The night log: times and kinds of events, like 00:40 crying, 4 minutes. Never sound or picture. It stays on this phone for 14 days and is never part of a backup.
  • Your settings, like sensitivity and alarm sound.

We can't get to any of it. Unpair a phone and its key is gone, so that phone can't get in anymore.

Permissions the app asks for

Microphone, on the baby phone

To hear what happens in the room. The sound only goes to your own paired phone. While the baby phone listens, you can see it on screen, by the orange dot on iPhone and iPad and by a permanent notification on Android.

Camera

On the parent phone to scan the QR code when you pair. On the baby phone only if you want to watch: the picture then goes live to your own paired phone. No photo or video is made or kept.

Local network

To find your other phone on your own Wi-Fi. Nothing goes to the internet.

Notifications

On the parent phone for an alert about sound, crying or a connection that drops, also when your screen is locked. On Android the baby phone shows a permanent notification while it listens.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no scripts or fonts from others.

To deliver the pages to you, our host Vercel Inc. processes technically necessary data, like your IP address, the page address and the time, in server logs. We do this on the basis of legitimate interest: without that data a website doesn't work and can't be protected against abuse. We only use the logs when something goes wrong, and can see them for a day at most. We don't keep or export them. Vercel keeps them a short while longer for security, under its own privacy policy.

Vercel is an American company, so data may go to the United States. Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which allows that transfer under the GDPR.

If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you, also on the basis of legitimate interest. We keep the email while your question is open and at most a year after, and delete it sooner if you ask.

App Store and Google Play

You download NightEar from the App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google handle that under their own privacy policies. They only show us download figures that can't be traced to you, and crash reports from people who chose to share them with developers.

Children

NightEar is an app for parents and collects data from nobody, so not from children either.

Deleting

Delete the app and the paired phones, keys, night log and settings on that phone are gone. There's nothing on our side to delete.

Who is responsible

A Brand New Company (ABN), Volume 88, 1446 WJ Purmerend, the Netherlands. Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 88565548. Reach us at info@abn.company.

Because the app collects nothing, there's nothing about your use for us to show, correct or erase. If you emailed us, you can always ask to see or delete that email. You also always have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If NightEar ever starts collecting anything, we'll say so beforehand, in the app and in the stores.
